Hristo Vitchev

Contact Hristo
Hristo is available by appointment
Referred by the media as one of the newest and most innovative voices in modern jazz guitar, Hristo’s music has been captivating audiences all across the globe. At only age 35 he has already released 7 critically acclaimed albums as a leader plus 4 more releases as a co-leader.
Originally from Bulgaria, but now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the impressionistic guitarist combines elements of classical, modern jazz, folk, and avant-garde sonic hues in his music. He has performed at some of the most prestigious jazz clubs and festivals in the world, and continues to amaze both critics and audiences alike with his imaginative, lyrical and illustrious writing.
“Vitchev’s sophisticated and adventurous work is imbued with shimmering harmonies and lyrical improvisations.” - JazzTimes
“Vitchev’s multihued compositions are like impressionistic sound paintings.” - JAZZIZ
“Hristo Vitchev may be one of the best kept secrets in jazz today. He is the epitome of sonic gold.” - CRITICAL JAZZ
“Bulgaria-born, Bay Area-based guitarist Hristo Vitchev, having firmly established himself as a gentle giant in the contemporary jazz scene, seems always willing and able to reinvent himself while holding true to the integrity of his artistry.” - ECM REVIEWS
“Vitchev is a master of the creative musical statement and every phrase and line that he plays reeks of innovation. His notes are slender and he casts them in melodies that arch and curve like wonderful and timeless architecture. His lines lope and gambol in dramatic parabolas as they shape the songs he makes so memorable.” – JazzdaGama
“My favorite guitar/piano team since - and heretically, including Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. The symmetry and synergy of these four is remarkable and almost-telepathic. The musicianship and artistry, with a heart full of love, has brought forth an album that speaks from the soul to the soul and we are made better by the hearing from a soul such as Hristo Vitchev.” - Travis Rogers (The Jazz Owl)

Ry Kihn

Contact Ry
Ry is available Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. PST or by appointment
The son of 80's rocker Greg Kihn, Ry grew up backstage at his dad's shows. By the age of 12 he was already tinkering with guitar and keyboards. After hearing Van Halen's first album, and jamming on "The Last Time" by the Rolling Stones at a summer camp band performance, the music bug had bitten and the career path was set. Within a few years Ry was gigging around town with various original hard rock bands in the SF Bay area club scene. After studying privately with Joe Satriani while still in high school, Ry went on to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston where his focus shifted to jazz and fusion, after hearing players like John Scofield, Pat Metheney, and George Benson. Eventually Ry moved back to California where he graduated from California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in Jazz Guitar Studies. While at CalArts, Ry had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of world class teachers including Charlie Haden, Larry Koonse, and Miroslav Tadic, and David Roitstein. Ry has performed with major rock artists such as Eddie Money, Joe Satriani, Billy Idol, Greg Kihn Band, Mike Reno (Loverboy), Jimi Jameson (Survivor), Bobby Kimball (Toto). He also was the house guitarist on his dad’s KFOX morning radio show for over 10 years, where he jammed with celebrity musical guests on a regular basis. He has toured worldwide with various acts in Europe and Asia. Ry is also a sought after studio musician, and has recorded at some the top studios working with world renown producers.

I am a well known guitarist in the Nor-Cal metal music scene. I have spent most of my life studying and playing guitar driven by classic rock, heavy metal, and modern rock. Inspired by Randy Rhoads and Van Halen, I began playing guitar in the late 80's. I quickly developed the passion, discipline and the sheer will to be the best musician I can be. I have been teaching at Showcase Music Institute since 2002 and have been actively performing live with my original band "The Venting Machine" since 1998. Recently, I embarked on a new music project with the legendary metal drummer, Paul Bostaph (Slayer/Testament/Exodus) and vocalist Dan Nelson (Anthrax). We call this band "BlackGates". I teach all ages and levels. I’m well versed in ear training, technique, improvisation, utilizing abstract scale patterns along with theory, transcribing in tablature. I'm also proficient at guitar set-ups. Some of my favorite things to do as an instructor are focus on marrying technique with imagination and preparing students for the big stage. I can remember the exact steps I took to become the player I am today, and It feels amazing to be able to pass my experience on to all of my students. Whether it is learning your favorite song, or building a guitar solo from scratch students can benefit from my hands on experience and fun, down to earth, teaching approach. As a bonus, I am also a skilled drummer, which gives my students a chance to jam in a "band" type setting, so they can put their hard work and practice to practical use. Thanks for taking the time to check me out, and I look forward to working with you. Lets get shredding!

World-renowned guitarist Marcus Henderson brings a wealth of experience, talent, skill, and dedication to you. Author of two instructional books, a DVD, and a plaque in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Marcus was responsible for recording the music on Guitar Hero and was honored with a permanent plaque in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame that accompanies the Gibson Flying V guitar used during the production of Guitar Hero 2. Whilst it’s true that it takes the man almost 400 hours to fully forge, write, perform and produce just one song, this artisanal approach with insane attention to detail and space used almost requires repeated listening to appreciate the dimension and layering within each tune. From Heart-felt melodic tracks like Embers to dizzying progressive-metal tunes and wide open Fusion blasts, this album is the sound of a songwriter that has mastered the art of blending epic guitar playing with meaningful and concise composition.
